Straw urges Turkey EU membership BBC News: Straw urges Turkey EU membership: "EU nations risk driving Christians and Muslims apart if Turkey is not brought into the fold, Foreign Secretary Jack Straw has predicted." These days I'm not often supportive of the actions of British politicians but I think that it is admirable that the government supports Turkey's EU membership application. Despite the protestations of some German, French and Austrian politicians, the EU is not and should not be a Christian club. Embracing Turkey, with its large Islamic population (although the Turkish state is secular), will do much to foster understanding. 10:23:24 PM    comment []  trackback []
