BBC NEWS: "TV comedy actor Ronnie Barker, who starred in Porridge and The Two Ronnies, has died aged 76."

In the late seventies or early eighties, I was privileged to be a member of the audience for a recording of The Two Ronnies. Both Ronnie Corbett and Ronnie Barker were brilliant and incredibly funny between takes. As far as I remember Ronnie Barker came out to warm the audience up before the recording started. I've always been a fan of Ronnie Barker's humour. He'll be sorely missed.

Next Up: Google Office?: "Google and Sun Microsystems will hold a press conference on Tuesday at which they're expected to announce a collaboration to bring StarOffice productivity applications to Google users."

(Via Randy Holloway.)

It will be interesting to see what Google and Sun have in mind:

  • A customized version of OpenOffice.org or StarOffice? Hopefully, they will not just go for the Windows market - the Mac OS X port has been falling behind other versions and has come catchup to do.
  • An AJAX-based Web 2.0 version of OpenOffice.org? Now that would be very exciting. Over five years ago I had a bet with a colleague that people would be routinely accessing their office applications as web applications within a year. Well I was very optimistic then but I get a real sense from the market that many are now ready to transition to Web 2.0 based office applications.
