a most interesting thing today.... someone not very familiar with
blogging is using something that i wrote in a marketing publication
that is sent to their clients. it was just a simple "how to blog"
guideline that was based upon my experiences over the past few months.
to me, it wasn't anything groundbreaking, but if it is valued by them,
that feels pretty good. my ability to write the piece was greatly
influenced by all of the people that i have encountered within the
blogosphere. it's my way of continuing the spirit of blogging. also,
helped show them how to use Technorati to find leads for a customer of
theirs. does all of this make me an expert? hardly, but i am getting
there.
also, had a nice chat with scott @ userland today. they are coming out
with some cool stuff over the next couple of weeks. can't wait to see
the upgrades and begin to use them. still working on moving the corp
blog glacier...big meeting tomorrow.

just writing for the practice....
rules for corporate blog installations
figure out a way to do it without IT involvement....find a server,
install the software and just start doing it without permission....if
found, ask forgiveness and then, show them the awesome things a blog
can do within a corporation...
having run the biz justification gamut, here are some good things to use...
a blog in a corp is an email killer...not all email goes away, but
anything that is of a corp/company wide mailing should be blog
based...blogs save on email storage space since there is only a single
email stored.....also, if a file attachment is involved, again only a
single file stored, instead of multiple files sitting on a
server....blogs can track communication effectiveness....with a blog,
people come to it to read the latest news...this can be
measured...emailings can't be measured except you know the number of
people on the mail list....blog comments can also be a quantitative and
qualitative measure of communication effectiveness...comments also help
clarify the message as the entire community can seek and provide
clarification to the message....very unlikely with emails...also, with
a Manila installation,
you can embed audio podcasting in the communication...i have seen this
done with an interview and it is a great addition to a communication
piece.....
so, for anyone reading....those are my favorite reasons to blog instead of email a large scale communication.....more later....
