i left a couple of comments today that really belong on my blog.
one, a thought on fake blogs....left this on a post by Hugh
his post is in regard to the fake blog now used by the Capt Morgan rum
folks. at issue is the use of fake comments to go along with the fake
blog
folks, stop fretting over fake blogs and comments. here's an analogy to help you.
like any great art style/philosophy, there will be "knock
offs"...similar looking/feeling work that fools some of the people,
some of the time. however, great art is great because it possesses a
quality that captures a person's attention and invokes a feeling that
did not exist before.
to me, it's not a stretch to see blogs in the same light. great
blogs are like great art - they possess character and feeling that
can't be found elsewhere. a great blog, like great art will attract
people again and again. that's why we have museums - people are
attracted to items that inspire and challenge us. a great blog does the
same thing - not to kiss Hugh's ass, but we come back here to get
something that no one else can give.
so, yea, there will be fake blogs and fake comments. and, like fake
art, it will be looked at once, then forgotten. let the ad folks have
their fun and just ignore them for what they are - people with weak
imaginations that have to latch onto other ideas to extract money from
weak minded customers....
my next comment was a response to what I think was a rhetorical question posed by Denzil Meyers at Applied Improvisation Network. Johnnie Moore is a member of the network. Denzil's question, "why blog?".....my response....
you may be pulling our leg, but I will play....
well, to start with, the market is a conversation and if you are in
business, you are in a market. with a blog, you can actually have a
conversation...exactly what you are doing with your post/comment. sure,
you can still have a conversation in a traditional manner -
email/phone/pager, but you best have a really big rolodex because....
blogs expand your reach exponentially - Technorati is approaching 1
billion links. Meaning, there have been 1 billion blog "conversations".
These conversations have happened between the 8.2 million blogs that
are currently in the blogosphere. pretty damn big rolodex!
blogs will also increase your business. there have been numerous
examples of a business site with a blog that have seen an increase in
business due to blogging. for example, if a well known blogger picks up
on your blog and notes your biz/products/service in a post, people will
come to your biz site and possibly give you biz that would not have
come otherwise...
finally, at least for this post, blogs provide a
perspective/knowledge that may otherwise be missed. going back to
stats, everyday, there are 500k posts on blogs. even if only 1% of
these are highly informative, that is knowledge that could have been
missed/used. why take a chance on missing what 5,000 really smart
people have to say each and every day?
is all of this a "big deal"? depends on your point of view and aspirations in life. let us know if you need any more help.
the point of
these comments..... a) exceptional blogging will rise to the top and
lead the way in this revolution. this is important as great blogs will
be the inspiration that continues the growth of blogging. with
inspiration, more people will blog and blogs will be viewed for more
than personal journals. in my mind, blogs have the potential to
transform many business processes. the more i blog, becoming more
exposed to the great minds out there, the more i envision the business
changes that blogs can bring.
b) why wouldn't you blog? for very little effort, a person can be
exposed to some of the best minds on the planet. are they all world
famous or notable? no, but easily 1% of the 8 million bloggers possess
some of the best thinking available and it's all for free. it's almost
like having unlimited who wants to be a millionaire lifelines....if i
want an answer to something, i go to Technorati, ask a question and
find out who is talking about my topic. go to their blog, drop a
comment and pretty soon, get an answer. seriously, how can everyone not
see value in that....
so, a long metablogging post, but it goes along with my theme.
before you teach someone about something, it's always a good idea to
provide a little context.
