a bit quiet.....first a small diversion....

i have begun following the Blogspotting duo of Heather Green and Stephen Baker. they appear to be genuinely interested in blogging and so far, have put together an impressive amount of blog posts. a wide variety of topics have kept things pretty interesting. Stephen and Heather are also quite cordial and have followed up on more than one occasion with emails thanking me for comments and clarifying a post topic. they are way more cordial than a couple of "A list" bloggers that i have sent direct emails and asked direct questions via comments. for some reason, the too busy A listers could never find time to respond. maybe, the "A" in "A list" stands for something. regardless, i enjoy Heather/Stephen's blog and enjoy interacting with them

recently, Heather had a post about "why corporate blogging works". this post referenced a very nice observation from Hugh about the membranes between customers and a corporation. Hugh's position was that blogs created holes in the membranes and allowed improved communication between the corp and customer.

amplifying on this is my view of a corporate blog. to me, a corporate blog is much, much more than the ceo or other high level officer presenting his/her view of the business. my view of a corporate blog is much more broad. a corporate blog is one of the best forms of customer personalization. done correctly, a customer facing blog is a customer's personal window into the corporation. via the blog, the customer can receive daily updates pertinent to them, they can ask questions about the updates, they can receive a multitude of information that is typically sent via email....pretty much anything accomplished via email can be done better in a blog.

and, it can be done for each and every customer in a relatively inexpensive and standardized manner. simply change a few things about the blog template, change a few subscriber names/contact info and you have a new customer specific "membrane" hole or as i like to call it, "blogmosis". for me, this is the future of corp blogging - a more personal way to connect with a multitude of customers.
