Okay, I am going to shamelessly promote myself here for a moment.  Everybody remarks about the power of the blog, and so I am going to try this one out.

I am looking for a new contract.

I am a computer consultant, and I have been working on a direct contract at an East Bay Company for the past 5 years.  Here is my bio so you can read about all the experiences I have collected in the last 30+ years in the computer industry.  Hint, I started out coding COBOL in 1969 at the age of 15, taught myself C in 1985 (in three weeks), and moved on from there to many other languages and technology.  Yes, I was one of the original geeks, way back when.  I have a wide and varied field of experience.  I now gravitate to Project Management and Technical Lead positions due to my long years of observing others (and myself) making mistakes and learning from them.  One of my strong points is troubleshooting, and strategically consulting and advising others to keep out of trouble.  I am known as a consultant who 'can tie my shoes'.  This means that I can talk business as well as tech, and I can translate deep technical concepts into business objectives and goals.  I am very good at creating a cooperative, collaborative team project approach for large groups of people.  I have successfully coordinated large multi-million dollar projects and came in under budget and on time.

I've worked at companies like: Novell, Microsoft Consulting Services, Schwab, Clorox, Bank of America, Wells Fargo Bank, Columbia Pictures (now Sony), Pacific Telesis (now SBC), and a number of small to medium sized companies.

My weak point is, well, believe it or not, I am not a strong self promoter.  I do most of my work silently behind the scenes, while others have taken credit for my work.  Although, there are those who have recognized the value that I bring to the table, thus I have been consulting in a variety of projects, at one company for the past 5 years.

What do I want to do?  Well here is my current passion...Blogging.

Even though I just started blogging, I have spent the past few months checking out blogging, RSS, Syndicated Content, The Market is a Conversation, etc.  I am gaining a behind the scenes knowledge of the technology.  I know what Scobleizer is to Microsoft, and I know what Winer is to RSS, and who are those Technorati guys anyway?  I would dearly love to assist a company that is in the blog business, or help a corporation that is looking to create a blogging program, or just be a 'technical evangelist' at a company.  That would be a cool job.

I have varied interests: music (I play the flute), chess, tennis, baseball (hardball), art, astronomy, open source software, social collaboration, philosphy, japanese sword fighting (shinkendo), zen, physics (string theory, dark matter - it's really no thing, parallel universes, and what's beyond the atom), chaos theory, and of course, anything to do with computers and technology.

What else would I like to do?  I am a technologist, if you have any ideas, contact me, and let's talk.

You know where to find me...

NOTE: This is FYI, and not an endorsement for MyMSN, which I use primarily because of it's Parental Controls feature.  However, I was also glad to see RSS capability added to this software application.

See Dare Obasanjo's Weblog for MyMSN RSS Integration...

Per Dare:

"Just as with other Web based aggregators there is also a handy button one can add to a website to enable one-click subscription to your RSS feed. This brings to a grand total of four buttons I need to add to my homepage. (note: I removed the buttons as they link to Dare's site, so visit his site if you want to see them... -dw)

There is also an MSN RSS Directory that contains links to the RSS feeds produced by MSN properties such as MSNBC, MSN Autos and MSN Music.

I'm really glad to see this ship. When I was first hired onto MSN I was supposed to work with the MyMSN folks on this effort but eventually things changed. Even though I haven't been directly responsible for this feature I've been in touch with the folks driving it and I think it is totally killer that Microsoft has finally officially cast a stone in the XML syndication waters. "
