Show #62: A September Early Morning

This podcast took a lot of fiddling around to get done. After doing the show and reviewing it in iTunes before posting, the sound was brittle and distorted. A check of my source files and the GarageBand editing showed everthing to be okay, but even so, I remixed the show several times trying to get rid of the distortion. To make a long story short, there's a serious bug in the new download of iTunes 7 that degrades sound files to a quality like that of a cassette player. Files will play okay in the Quicktime Player and in the iPod itself, but the new version of iTunes adds all kind of distortion. Stick with Version 6 if you can. There's no way to uninstall the V7 app and go back to V6 that actually works, so be careful....I'd suggest avoiding version 7 until Apple comes out with a fix. The discussion boards are full of people tearing their hair out over this one. It seems most of them are Windows users, but this has affected my eMac as well.

In terms of content for this show I talk about YouTube and wonder how they get around the copyright issues for the material that's posted there. It seems to me to be something of a video Napster. I also play two songs by Owen Pallett, also known as Final Fantasy, the recent winner of the Polaris Award.

There's a segment in here from a recent episode of Dave Slusher's Evil Genius Chronicles in which I answer his question about "Why people podcast?" I sent it to Dave, he played in his show as part of his preparation for his talk at the upcoming Portable Media Expo, so I thought I'd repost the segment here. The show ends with a piece of music from Jonathon Coulton and his Thing of the Week Podcast.

If you have any comments or feedback about today's show, send me an email, or better yet, send me an audio comment at triecken@gmail.com and I'll use it in an upcoming show.
