Book Review: The Lady of Godey's: Sarah Josepha Hale

The Lady of Godey's is an oldie but goodie. It's a biography that is surprisingly modern in its outlook and honest assessement of its subject. Hale was one busy lady, one of the first woman achievers in 19th century America. She edited Godey's Lady's Book for decades; wrote novels; campaigned for sensible dress, public education, urban sanitation, etc. and retired at 89. Now she's best known for getting Lincoln to establish Thanksgiving Day, and for writing 'Mary had a little lamb'.
