Teen Contenders Demand Respect on Duramed FUTURES Tour
With women's professional golf at an all-time high in popularity, the 2006 Duramed FUTURES Tour promises to offer the same sense of youth, exuberance and skill currently displayed on the big-sister LPGA Tour.
Never has the "road to the LPGA" been so evident as it was in the season's first two LPGA Tour events. Showcasing the direct link from the top young professionals to the world's best women pros, FUTURES Tour alums captured 11 of the top-20 spots in the LPGA's most-recent Fields Open in Hawaii, where 2004 alumna Meena Lee defeated 2005 FUTURES Tour Player of the Year Seon-Hwa Lee in a three-hole playoff. The week before, 12 FUTURES Tour alums finished in the top 20.
And now this week, the season kicks off for the Duramed FUTURES Tour, the "official developmental tour of the LPGA." With the top five players from 2005 moving on to the LPGA, this year's best young players are yet to be determined. A weekly tournament field with players from 31 nations and 41 U.S. states will spend the next seven months jockeying for position to earn one of the coveted top-five passes to move on to the 2007 LPGA Tour.
