Off-topic post: Apple Support
Apples - you either love 'em or you hate 'em. I'm on my fourth PowerBook now (with a Mac Mini in reserve), and I'm a die-hard fan, despite Apple's many shortcomings. OSX 10.4 has finally made then 99.9% PC compatible, and it's very rare for me to need to resort to Virtual PC to open or send a document (the only exception to this is anything passing through the government GSI mail gateway, which seems to treat document attachments as viruses, and forward on the email without the attachment...)
I've just had to send my PowerBook back under warranty for a new display, having developed a 1cm white spot in the middle of the display. This is a common design fault that Apple should have fixed a long time ago. Getting Apple's helldesk operator (who I think was in Germany) to recognise the problem resulted in talking to three different people and me submitting a letter of complaint about his pig-headed attitude - he insisted I either take it to London and queue for an hour in the store, or pay £35 for them to pick it up and look at it.
That said, once I'd had a few gentle choice words with him and his manager, they agreed to send a courier to collect it. That was on Tuesday. On Wednesday morning, UPS delivered an empty box for the PowerBook, and came back in the afternoon to collect it. On Friday morning at 10am, the PowerBook was back in my hands with a brand new display.
48 hours turnaround for a major repair, and all I had to do was throw the machine in a box delivered by the manufacturer - Apple, you've gotta love 'em really.
