ICO gets tough on privacy traders
The BBC is reporting that the Information Commissioner, Richard Thomas, has used his powers to report on the growing trade in private information - which he claims needs new laws to jail those who sell personal data, from £17.50 for an address, to £750 for mobile phone records. If the ICO is really getting tough then this is a welcome new development. His office does a great job, but when penalties for DPA infringements are negligible, how are we really meant to police it?
