Attenex Technology Combines Visual Review and Conceptual Organization to Reduce the Time and Cost of Legal Review
AUSTIN, Texas - June 7, 2007 - RenewData, a leader in e-discovery services for law firms and corporations, today announced that it has joined the Attenex Advantage Partner program and will host customer data on the Attenex Patterns E-Discovery Platform. Attenex software reduces the time and expense of review through the product's patented visualization and concept mapping capabilities, which can boost reviewer productivity from 200 to over 2000 document decisions per day.
"Over the years, our customers have repeatedly asked for a 'one-stop shop' that can process high volumes of backup tapes, perform forensically sound onsite collections with certified professionals, cull through large amounts of data and host a state-of-the-art conceptual based document review platform," says Jake Frazier, Vice President of Marketing at RenewData. "We are now able to perform all of those services for our customers with one project manager, one contract, and in one secure facility."
Attenex Patterns enables users to quickly review and analyze massive amounts of electronic data through its patented visual analytics functionality and robust processing engine. The software uses concept mapping that visually clusters similar documents together, and this simple, user-friendly interface provides significant time and cost savings to RenewData customers over traditional review options. Additional features include:
· The ability to mark, tag and annotate individual documents or groups of similar documents for accelerated document review
· Integrated keyword searching combined with 'find similar documents as' functionality to identify relevant or privileged documents that Boolean searches alone would miss
· A social networking view of custodian emails to help identify additional relevant custodians and provide an early case assessment
· Sample data reports so that customers can review data to determine issues, case strategies, keywords, and custodians, prior to engaging the full review process or in preparation for a meet & confer, as required by the revised Federal Rules of Civil Procedure
RenewData was ranked a "Top Five" electronic discovery service provider by the Socha-Gelbmann Electronic Discovery Survey Report for the past two years. Their non-native extraction technology allows customer data to be obtained from backup tapes, forensic images or other sources at incomparable speed, and their ActiveVault technology provides rapid, high volume de-duplication and processing. By adding Attenex Patterns to its suite of services, RenewData can manage customer data throughout the entire electronic discovery process.
"We're pleased that RenewData is joining the Attenex Advantage Partner program, especially since they are known in the e-discovery services business for their speed and scalability," said Joe White, executive vice president of sales for Attenex. "Adding the Attenex Patterns software to their solution will help continue to decrease time frames and costs for their customers."
RenewData offers legal advantages to their customers with a legally defensible chain-of-custody, government-level secure facility, and depth of legal expertise in all areas of the organization. With the addition of Attenex Patterns, customers can also create reporting for legal counsel to determine case strategy and to be used in "meet and confer" sessions. The combination of advanced technology, legal expertise, and a comprehensive suite of services provides a complete solution for RenewData customers.

Foreign Language Processing, NSF Output and StoredIQ On-site Collections Added to Suite of Services
AUSTIN, Texas - May 30, 2007 - RenewData, a leader in e-discovery services for law firms and corporations, announced today the addition of several new electronic evidence service capabilities, including performing on-site collections using the StoredIQ appliance, foreign language culling capabilities, and de-duplication, culling and output of Lotus Notes and Domino native NSF files. These added competencies expand the scope of RenewData's current services to address a variety of customer needs:
- StoredIQ Onsite Data Collection
The addition of the StoredIQ appliance expands the capabilities of RenewData's e-discovery collection offering to now include the collection of live, unstructured data and email in real time at the site of its corporate clients. The RenewData Forensic Collections Team utilizes the non-intrusive StoredIQ appliance to proactively index and search the corporation's network using client-defined search terms. This process identifies potentially relevant electronically stored information while guaranteeing a legally defensible chain-of-custody. RenewData then copies all responsive unstructured data into a secure repository within the StoredIQ appliance. The resulting indexed data set may be de-duplicated and filtered by keyword or date range, or otherwise handled in a variety of methods supported by the StoredIQ appliance. The data can then be moved to the RenewData facility for any further processing, depending on the needs of the client. In addition, a Data Topology Map specifying the location, ownership, size, number and types of files identified can be provided in PDF format for use by legal counsel in 26(f) "meet and confer" sessions.
- Foreign Language Processing Capabilities
In order to accommodate the increasing globalization of litigation, RenewData added enhanced culling capabilities for foreign language documents to their ActiveVault® processing services. RenewData's foreign language culling gives clients the ability to use foreign character search terms, including "wildcards," to search the document text and text-based metadata fields, such as title and author. RenewData e-discovery processing now supports documents utilizing Unicode encoding. This enhanced capability enables them to process documents written in any language supported by Unicode, including, but not limited to, Chinese, Russian, Arabic, Hebrew, Spanish, French, and Italian. RenewData's processing capability also supports multiple character sets including Japanese dialects such as Hiragana or Katakana.
- NSF Output
Given that Lotus Notes is the second most common enterprise email platform, with 24% of the email market (Osterman Research Messaging Archiving Market Trends, 2007-2010), adding native NSF output capabilities to their ActiveVault processing offering was a logical evolution of RenewData's services. With this capability, RenewData's e-discovery services now provide a complete solution for collecting, processing and delivery of documents in NSF format. Outputting the NSF files in their native format eliminates the loss of Notes-specific formatting and metadata that occurs when converting to PST or other formats. It also allows a full native review with tools supporting NSF files.
"The enhancements we are introducing demonstrate our sustained commitment as a market leader," said Ellery Buchanan, CEO of RenewData. "We will continue to bring forward-looking services to market in order to exceed the expectations of our customers."
RenewData, a Socha-Gelbmann "Top Five" electronic discovery provider, covers a full range of electronic discovery services from planning through production. The addition of the StoredIQ collections capabilities, foreign language culling capabilities, and the ability to output native NSF files further enrich the company's existing offerings.

Migration of Legacy Emails Using ActiveVault Conversion Engine Employs Legally Defensible Process and Results in a Unified Archive
AUSTIN, Texas - May 22, 2007 - RenewData, a leader in e-discovery services for corporations and law firms, announced today the launch of their Data Migration Services, enabling corporations who have implemented an email archiving system to migrate and consolidate historical email into their new system. The result is a centralized repository to support legal discovery. All migrations are performed using the ActiveVault Conversion Engine under full chain-of-custody with a repeatable, defensible process that ensures data integrity and can be supported with RenewData expert testimony if required.
RenewData provides data migration services from a wide variety of sources such as CA Message Manager (formerly Assentor), Lotus Notes, Novell GroupWise, Microsoft Exchange, backup tapes, and platters, and can rapidly migrate large amounts of data into many top email archiving systems such as Symantec Enterprise Vault and EMC EmailXtender. RenewData's proprietary technology has the unique ability to bypass the legacy application and directly access content-addressable storage. Then, RenewData uses its ActiveVault Conversion Engine platform to de-duplicate the emails by custodians and convert the data into a format that can be ingested by the email archive. RenewData is also able to migrate data such as user files, instant messaging, and chat, depending on the needs of the client. As a result, corporations can utilize their archiving and document management solutions for data classification, search and retrieval, preservation of electronically stored information (ESI), and application of a document retention policy across all of their data.
"Our ActiveVault infrastructure allows us to rapidly process and migrate large volumes of data," said Joe Venturella, Senior Vice President of Legal Solutions at RenewData. "Our customers are then able to maximize the value of their new system and enhance their ability to meet tight e-discovery timeframes." In addition, if a corporation becomes involved in litigation during the process of a conversion, RenewData also offers the unique capability of producing data to satisfy legal discoveries from the same data set that is being migrated, without disrupting the process.
The ActiveVault Conversion Engine allows corporations to access all their email directly from the email archiving system, eliminating the cost and risk associated with maintaining old email on backup tapes or in a previous email archiving system. To assist companies in determining whether they have dormant liability as a result of storing backup tapes, RenewData has developed a detailed Risk Calculator available at www.renewdata.com/risk-calc.php.

Electronic Discovery Provider Expands its Capabilities for Clients that have International Presence
AUSTIN, Texas - May 1, 2007 - RenewData, a leader in e-discovery services for law firms and corporations, announced today that it has been added to the U.S. Department of Commerce's Safe Harbor List and that it adheres to the framework developed by the Department of Commerce in coordination with the European Commission to provide "adequate" privacy protection of personal data. This ensures that RenewData has taken the steps required to transfer data to the United States for processing in the course of electronic discovery.
The European Union's Directive on Data Protection requires companies to follow certain privacy protection standards, included in the Safe Harbor framework, in order to legally transfer personal data to non-European Union nations. "RenewData's established physical and procedural security measures readily met those required of companies seeking to be certified as a Safe Harbor by the European Union," noted RenewData's General Counsel, Fred Kopec.
RenewData's participation in Safe Harbor will provide predictability and continuity for those European Union organizations that send personal information to the United States and U.S. organizations that receive personal information from the European Union. All Member States are bound by the Safe Harbor list thereby eliminating the need for prior approval to begin data transfers or providing for automatic approvals.
"Most large companies, including many of our clients, now have some portion of their business conducted internationally, so this certification was crucial to be able to better serve these companies," said Ellery Buchanan, CEO. "Protecting the privacy of data is inherent at RenewData, and this certification demonstrates our continued commitment to the needs of our clients."
RenewData has developed a Safe Harbor Privacy Policy that covers notice and choice, disclosures and transfers, data security, data integrity, access and correction, and enforcement and dispute resolution, all which are based on the Safe Harbor Privacy Principles. The RenewData Safe Harbor Data Privacy Policy can be found at http://www.renewdata.com/safeharbor.php.

Integrity of Evidence Increases as Review Database is Hosted In-House
AUSTIN, Texas - October 5, 2006 - RenewData, a leader in Information Governance solutions for corporations and law firms, announces today that they have become an Application Service Provider (ASP) for iCONECTnxt. This addition elevates RenewData to a select number of vendors able to provide a full array of electronic discovery services in-house.
"Security plays a critical role from start to finish during an electronic discovery project," said George Socha, president of Socha Consulting and co-author of the 2003-2006 Socha-Gelbmann Electronic Discovery Surveys. "It's difficult to maintain the integrity of data when organizations are using multiple vendors during process and review cycles. As the courts continue to increase the level of scrutiny in the handling of evidence, it will be even more crucial for corporations and law firms to have the option of using a vendor that can handle projects from beginning to end."
Clients can look to RenewData's legal expertise for the entirety of the discovery process including the planning, preservation, collection, data processing, review and production. iCONECTnxt technology enables attorneys to review and manage electronic and document discovery from anywhere in the world via a secure Web interface. With the addition of iCONECT, RenewData becomes one of the few vendors able to provide a true end-to-end electronic discovery solution.
"We recently began working with a global Am Law 100 firm on a large-scale electronic discovery project. It was essential that we had the capability to manage the project without having to outsource critical data to other vendors for review," said Bob Gomes, CEO of RenewData. "iCONECT is a trusted leader in the litigation support market and its offering has a stable platform that can tackle the scalability our clients require. By bringing those services in-house, we now provide a complete solution and security is not compromised as the customer's original evidence never has to leave the RenewData facility."

Austin, TX, September 21, 2006 - RenewData, a leader in Information Governance solutions for corporations and law firms, has seen a steep increase in requests for backup tape reports, including Tape Catalog reports, File Listings, Post Office Custodian reports and loose Mailbox Custodian reports, as corporations clamber to ready themselves for the changes to Rule 26(b)(2) of the Federal Rules of Civil Procedure (FRCP).
Many corporations have accumulated a large number of backup tapes because of overlapping litigation holds and business acquisitions. The new rules place a burden on corporations to identify whether or not the information on those tapes is potentially responsive. As a result, companies are using the reports to catalog their inventory of tapes and determine what tapes actually need to be retained.
Though RenewData has been offering the reports for nearly two years, the increase in demand has been dramatic with the advent of the changes to the FRCP. The reports most commonly requested by RenewData customers are File Listings. A listing of file types contained on each tape is provided in either a spreadsheet or database format, permitting companies to select tapes that only contain system files and rotate them back into the recycling process. This selection saves larger corporations a great deal of money on tapes alone. The Tape Catalog Report follows in popularity, establishing when a tape was created and what backup software was used. This inexpensive option allows companies to recycle tapes that are older than their oldest litigation hold.
"The new rules have given companies the impetus to document all of the backup tapes they have amassed over time and provide a paper trail for whether or not they preserve each one" said Bob Gomes, CEO for RenewData. "The reports also allow corporations to decrease their storage and reduce unnecessary tape processing and attorney review time for future litigation."

Meeting to be Held at Association’s 2006 Annual Meeting
Saint Paul, Minnesota, August 17, 2006 - The Electronic Discovery Reference Model (EDRM) Metics and XML Projects will be holding a group meeting during the course of the International Legal Technology Association (ILTA) 2006 Annual Meeting at the JW Marriott Orlando Grande Lakes Hotel in Orlando, FL. The meeting is being held at this venue to encourage participation from additional legal professionals and to further expand the expertise of the project. The meeting will be held on Tuesday, August 22 at 5:00 p.m. in the Pelazzo-D room.
The EDRM discussion will include an update on plans including the EDRM Metrics Project led by Jason Velasco, vice president of research and education at RenewData, and the EDRM XML Project, led by Rick Nalle, Manager, Forensic Technology Services at KPMG, LLP. The meeting is open to EDRM Metrics and XML participants as well as ILTA attendees.
EDRM was created to address the lack of standards and guidelines in the electronic discovery market – a problem identified in the 2003 and 2004 Socha-Gelbmann Electronic Discovery surveys as a major concern for vendors and consumers alike. The completed reference model provides a common, flexible and extensible framework for the development, selection, evaluation and use of electronic discovery products and services. The completed model was placed in the public domain in May 2006.
The EDRM Metrics project is intended to provide a standard approach and a generally accepted language for measuring the full range of electronic discovery activities. The EDRM XML project will develop an XML schema to facilitate movement of electronic information from one step of the electronic discovery process to the next, one software program to the next, and one organization to the next. Both projects were launched in May 2006 and are scheduled for completion in May 2007.
