I recently told Mr.Absinthe that it would be interesting if we could somehow hook into the electronic diagnostics of our car to monitor our gas usage in real time. Such a thing would presumably be of interest to at least a cross-section of consumers out there.
Well, I serendipitously discovered today that such a thing already exists; ScanGauge by Linear Logic.
It costs $160, but by my calculations, if the average consumer reduced their gas consumption by 25% (which I think is easily achievable, especially with real-time feedback on your driving habits), the unit will pay for itself in around 3 to 4 months. Less if your vehicle is an absolute fuel pig like our Honda Odyssey.
