The W on Lakeshore Drive has DSL, with a nice cord provided in a fancy little holder that sits on the spacious desk. $14.95 plus tax til noon tomorrow. Good service, acceptable deal.

I slipped out of my meeting to do a quick phone call with WUNC's State of Things program about the Matisse, Picasso, and the School of Paris show at the NC Museum of Art. You can listen here. NCMA director Larry Wheeler and I start about three-quarters of the way through.

People are still talking about the bulge in the back of Bush's jacket during the debates. Some think it was a receiver for an ear-piece that fed him all those brilliant answers...

My guess: it's where the key fits -- you know, the one Cheney uses to wind him up.

Jay Ovittore just wants to smoke a damn cigarette in peace, but no, The Man keeps taxing him and hassling him and telling him he can't smoke in public places...

He loses me on that last one. Smoke 'em if you've got 'em, but don't expect me to quietly breathe in your stench.

Remember the old Steve Martin line, "Mind if I smoke?' "No, mind if I fart?"
