Jakub Jedras - TOL - "On 30 August, Stanislaw Stefan Paszczyk, the head of the Polish Olympic Committee (PKOl), resigned, after Poland came only 23rd in the Athens medal table.
The announcement became [base "]the pebble that started the avalanche,[per thou] as a popular Polish saying goes. The right-wing Law and Justice party (PiS) demanded Paszczyk's dismissal in favor of younger, more well-known people connected with sports. PiS parliamentarian Kazimierz Marcinkiewicz specifically mentioned Robert Korzeniowski, a racewalker who won gold in Atlanta, Sydney, and Athens and who ended his career after this year's Games.
Korzeniowski ruled out the possibility, saying that he was astonished that the media and politicians had criticized the PKOl.
"I think it is a kind of game I have been drawn into, and I would like to distance myself from it," he told the Polish Press Agency.
