32 Road Units Assembled For Disposal in Roseville

Over the past few days a long line of 32 old locomotives of various heritages has been put together on the ready track paralleling Roseville Road in Antelope. Road numbers span the Union Pacific's fleet, from UP 470 to UP 9999. One DRGW unit and 7 SP units in their original paint and number are included. About half appear to have already to be cannibalized; one SP tunnel motor is missing major parts of the long hood, valve covers and other necessaries of life.

A notable unit is UP 9999, in SP scarlet and gray with the "Southern Pacific" sprayed over with gray primer on the long hood. This specific unit, a B-B wheel configuration, pictured above was one of 4 GP40X engines SP rostered and only one that made it to UP's roster.

SD-9 "Cadillac" with Southern Pacific block lettering on the long hood, road number SP 4401 is among the line. -Tom Krummell
