Siemens plans to fire 15,000 software developers and replace them with workers in India, China. Meanwhile, back in the world of really important stuff, Kerry said "It's not true" and Bush said "I really did serve". [Edward Mitchell: Common Sense Technology]

"The number of 18- to 34-year- olds shrank by 9 million between 1990 and 2000, he noted, while the 50-plus group rose by 12 million as the first boomers -- born from 1946 to 1964-- surpassed the half-century mark."
I find the above to be one of the most amazing yet little known statistics that has had tremendous impacts on all aspects of our lives. Yet politicians treat like it is a secret for fear that if we found out why economies go up and down (hint: it has little to do with politicians) they would lose their favorite illusion trick!
Of interest, Cingular, which is buying AT&T Wireless, offshores 10% of its IT workers in this otherwise hilarious and factually misconstrued pro-offshoring piece from an immigration lawyer. Another hilarious quote: "the chief executive of Intel that employs a good number of Indian engineers on H-1B temporary worker visas, who observed that a shortage of well-trained engineers would encourage American firms to shift more, not less, work to India as a result of the reduction in the H-1B visa allotment from 195,000 to 65,000 per fiscal year". And there is now a shortage of well-trained engineers? After more than 15,000 announced firings in the past 24 hours, kind of hard to justify that quote! [Edward Mitchell: Common Sense Technology]

Very Interesting. Detailed interviews with India IT workers on many topics. Note: When one person says that only 15% of India's population is "middle class", do keep in mind that still is 150 million people! [Edward Mitchell: Common Sense Technology]
