PythonCard

An old colleague of mine, Kevin Altis, has been driving an Open Source development effort called PythonCard in an effort to recreate some of the great functionality and ease of use that HyperCard represented when it debuted.

Recently, I've become involved in the project, albeit somewhat peripherally for the moment. I've built a simple "stack" and am in the process of creating a tutorial that will hopefully help make the product more approachable to newcomers.

If you're interested in the project, you can visit its SourceForge page. Kevin is always looking for people interested in helping with the project.

I couldn't get into the race!

When Robert Scoble sent me the info on the new version beta, I noticed that a number of early users were racing to see who could go from download to first post in the least time. When I looked, the record was 3:40.

I couldn't compete. By the time I got to my beta download, there must have been a gazillion people beating on the servers. They were pretty slow. But I didn't mind; at my age I've learned to be patient. Anticipation is half the fun of getting a new present like Radio Userland 8.

I'm looking forward to using the new product. I used the older version a few times but never really quite got my head around it. I'm also a licensed owner of Frontier/Manila, which I like a lot.

Up and running!

For the past several weeks, I have been noodling about Weblogs and sniffing around the edges of the stuff. I run a group of Zope-based sites where I'm using SquishDot (a Python-based version of SlashDot) for discussion boards and an experimental Weblog. So when I heard about the new and improved Radio Userland, it seemed pretty fortuitous.

OK, everyone out there who's using this stuff, raise your antenna so I can get a count!

:-)
