Domain Names in the News

Web builders often have to pay attention to the minute details of their clients' business. One murky area for lots of designers and developers is the whole issue of domain names. There have been several significant developments in that arena in the past few days that are worthy of at least brief comment.

In one development, "member-specific" domains are coming under serious high-level discussion. At least one of these, .name, is a great idea. The others? I'm not so sure.

In another news item, reported by the URLy Indicator, a tempest in a teapot is brewing over how expiring names should be doled out to those in line who want the names for their own use or for speculation. My take: don't lose any sleep over this.
