What's Wrong With OS X?

I've started a new running story on what I find wrong with the design or implementation of OS X.

Advice to Me: 'Get Over Your Bad Self'

Well, after my tirade a few days ago, I calmed down a little. (So now should I remove or edit my original post? I think not. Authenticity is too important a part of this blogging thang.) I talked with three friends of mine who are very knowledgeable about OSes in general and Linx/Unix/BSD in particular. All have also taken a close look at OS X.

The consensus: I should bite the bullet, pay the $129 and stay with OS X.

One of these guys, a man for whom I have serious respect, said, "OS X is the best of the best out there. It has a much better UI than any window manager for Linux/Unix/BSD and under the hood it is at least as powerful as any of them. Not surprising since under the hood it is BSD!"

Another said, "You won't be happy as a desktop user with any window manager for the Xes. They're just a long way from the elegance of OS X. Plus the apps you'd lose. Nope. Apple may be over-charging but it's a pittance compared to the time cost you'd spend converting."

Sheepish, I decide to stay with OS X. But I won't stop pointing out what's wrong with it and with Apple's self-defeating tactics.
