Bad Economics - Great Deal
I use Norton Anti-Virus on my home PC. My virus signature subscription expired yesterday. I knew this was coming but hadn't got around to renewing. I'm glad I didn't.
Norton SystemWorks 2003 has been released. Amazon is currently offering it for $62.95 with a $10 instant rebate. They also offer a $20 mail-in rebate, making the cost $32.95. Symantec offers a $30 upgrade mail-in rebate, making the final cost just $2.95, which is less than the subscription renewal cost.
That, and the product qualifies for free shipping from Amazon. Somebody has got to be losing money on this deal, as it has to cost more than $2.95 to manufacture and ship the CD ROMs, manuals, and the box they come in. I'm just glad it isn't me!
