Kids and Pigeons

Man, anyone who says that humans don't hunt instinctively, has never had kids.

What is it with children and pigeons? I took a half-day off yesterday, and met up with J and our daughter at the Children's Museum.

  1. The museum was insane. (There were several public school groups there)
  2. There is some age-old enmity between kids and pigeons.

I mean, my daughter starts out wanting to feed them, which was sort of to distract from the fact that she's supposed to be eating herself. Then, after she has eaten she's feeding the birds full-bore.

More precisely, she's tossing crumbs, then running after them. She finally refines this into a "Toss a crumb, jump at bird" technique that with a few days practice would probably net her a bird. (We had a little talk about the wisdom of catching birds.) Not bad for a 5 year old.
