Dave Chappelle's Wife? Beats me, I was just checking my referrer's, and someone was looking for her name on Google and ended up here.

And the people who DID start it? We have to finish the people who started the Iraqi war.

Saddam'll be in Iraqi court, and if we can't get Bush and company in court, let's at least cashier their asses this November.

Y'know, it occurs to me, I haven't mentioned my current stance on the war, so I'll rattle it off fast:

Remember; the people over there, both our folks in the military and the Iraqi people didn't start this.

But they have to finish it.

What are you waiting for? Go!

Finally! Number 1! Finally, after over a year, this weblog is the number one listing on Google if you search for my name. The previous champion was the old site, when I was still hosting on radio.weblogs.com.

"Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban" Review Hippogriffs, Dementors and Harry, oh my! Director Alfonso Cuaron finally decants the essence of J.K. Rowling's work and brings us one of the greatest fantasy films of all time.[Salon]

So, the daughter of course, wanted to be the first one to see it, so we made time and went to see it when it opened Friday.

The young one seemed to thoroughly enjoy it, and I expected to, based on the review at Salon.com.

First off, if you've been reading the J.K. Rowling Harry Potter books, this movie the one where the rips will begin to get to you. Not to say that I wanted the job of trying to pare down Prisoner of Azkaban's. From here on, it's just going to get harder and harder to ignore the huge swaths of stuff that's missing.

There were a lot of sections where you could tell that they'd chopped hunks off to make space for the action sequences.

Did we really need a minutes-long segment of Harry riding Buckbeak? No. It went on for about 30-45 seconds too long and, as my 6 year old pointed out; "I don't remember Harry enjoying riding Buckbeak." (He doesn't. He preferred his broom)

As a movie, it felt kind of jumbled. There were a lot of segments that were enjoyable, but it just wasn't cohesive. Again, I think that this is a "comparison to the book" issue, since Rowling's stuff is so cohesive.

To make the movie they cut the connecting strands, and a lot of the movie just fell apart.

Was it worth seeing? Hell yes, if only for a few of the sections.

Things I Liked:

Buckbeak - The Hippogriff was simply beautiful. I don't mean that in a special effects sense of the word either. It was seamlessly done, and simply beautiful.

Professor Lupin - he was not at all how I visualized Lupin looking or acting, but I'd bet money he's how J.K. Rowling visualized him looking and acting. Very British, and I liked him.

The Dementors - They did a nice job with them. They looked pretty scary, and interesting looking.

Things I Disliked;

Sirius Black - Sorry, just not well acted, imho, not well done, and well, it just didn't work, sorry.

Dumbledore - I miss Richard Harris. It's a completely different Dumbledore, and he acts, soounds and behaves wrong to me. It's not all his fault. They actually added stuff to his parts from the books, and additional exposition just sucks.
