Common and Cattle Egrets
This post was inspired by the Mac Net Journal's great photo of sandpipers at Grays Harbor, WA.
Last Summer, when leaving Gustine, CA, Michele and I came across a field filled with egrets. Here is a picture of a few of them. A common egret stands at the rear, with four cattle egrets in front.
The larger common egret is distinguished by its long neck, yellow beak and dark legs. The cattle egret has a much shorter necks and a brown patch on its breast.
