I wonder how much thought the music labels have put into their copy-protection efforts?
The big labels think they are losing sales because people are stealing music. That may be partly true. But maybe they are losing sales because people don't want to buy what they bundle. If they were to unbundle music, and let their customers buy just the songs they want, easily, online, I think they would sell more music.
I still buy my music bundled as CD's when there is something I want to listen to at my leisure. I usually rip a copy of the songs from the CDs I purchase so that I can make my own mix and listen to the songs I want to hear. Making a copy for personal use still falls under the fair-use clause in copyright law... at least the last time I checked it did.
I will tell you this: if the studios are successful in their copy-protection efforts, I will stop buying their music. I hope the big labels get a clue. 3:40:34 PM
