It's Like Déjà Vu All Over Again
"You could probably waste an entire day on the preceding links alone. But why take chances? We also give you Paul Snively..." — John Wiseman, lemonodor
My gut is still clenched into a knot several hours now after reading this story for the first time. I don't know Sean Fay. But I do know that no person in their mid twenties (or any age, for that matter) should lose the love of their life like this. I am so awfully, horribly sorry.

Boy reading Dan Gillmor rant about crashes on Mac OS X and problems with the wireless LAN at Demo cause a pause. His credibility is gone with me. It's one thing for software to crash because of a bug, that's bad for sure, but it's even worse when they deliberately crash the software. Where is Dan's outrage on the broken archives. Does he sympathize more with his employer or his readers? Could he criticize them if they deserved it? If they don't deserve it, please explain. [Scripting News]
It's hard to know what to say about this. MacOS X's Classic environment reminds me of that old Samuel Johnson saw about women preachers and dancing dogs: the surprise isn't to see it done well, but to see it done at all (no flames please; Johnson said it, not me). Dan might benefit from using Office for X vs. the old Classic version of the software.
And wireless networking is still a tad too fresh to be as stable as one would like for a venue such as a trade show.
But Dave's point is well taken: Dan's employer just got done shafting Dan's readers. You'd think Dan would comment. The fact that he hasn't, but has commented on these other accidental shafts, does raise disquieting questions.

SafeWeb's Holes Contradict Claims. The once-ballyhooed anonymizing Web service that received CIA funding is shown to have flaws. The company downplayed the recent discovery. Declan McCullagh reports from Washington. [Wired News]
Astounding. I particularly love the "all anonymizers have bugs" bit. "We're no worse than anyone else." Um, OK. How many exploits of Freedom have been documented?
