We shred all of our personally identifiable paper mail, we reject unjustified requests for such information, we use different passwords for all of our online accounts, we use firewalls, we follow safe email practices, we ignore emails requesting personal information under various pretexts. But it does not matter, because identity merchants can continue to profit from trading in our personal details without suffering real consequences for their abuses and carelessness. It's amazing that we can sue for malpractice doctors who we actually asked for help, but we cannot sue those data brokers who harm us when we never asked them for anything. 9:44:35 PM
