Can't Stop to Think...

Cause if we do we'll lose our minds.

Well, I had to do it, buy something from Apple's iTunes music store. Not a bad way to get music, all in all. I picked up a copy of Randy Newman's Live (here it is at Amazon), an early album of his that captures a lot of his whimsey and humor. Some things are a little disappointing about getting this album this way. First, the meta info about the album is either non-existent or wrong. You don't get a record label so you can't see anything about the music (of course, in these days of small CDs, labels are generally hard for these old eyes to read anyway). But all the date info for this album is "1995" the presumed release date of the CD, not the original album date. Of course, I don't know where this data came from, but Amazon does have the correct original release date of 1971.

And the $9.95 price tag is, I hope, something that comes down soon. If a CD of this album costs $11.98 at Amazon, then to save $2.00 plus shipping, I lose the physical CD with label etc. (and no DRM!). On the other hand, I get the instant gratification.

So, for me, on this album which I remember well, purchasing from Apple probably wasn't much better than getting it from Amazon (or Amoeba or Rasputin's), and maybe a little worse.

Which story will get more coverage on Fox News?

Dave Winer: “Even if it had been put up for bid, Halliburton shouldn't have been considered because the vice-president was the CEO of the company before running for office. And it wasn't put up for bid, they just gave the [Iraq] contract to Halliburton…This is a scandal.”

Or this one:

The Hill’s Sam Dealey reports: “Sen. John Edwards’ presidential campaign finance documents show a pattern of giving by low-level employees at law firms, a number of whom appear to have limited financial resources and no prior record of political donations.”
