"As long as we allow this to be dangled in front of us because of our unwillingness to say publicly what so many of us are saying privately, it will haunt the Democratic party. This is really one of the great final civil rights struggles. And again I say to my colleagues in the Democratic party: Why are you a Democrat if you can't stand on a fundamental construct that has always distinguished our party. That we didn't sit around. We advanced the issues of equality. We engaged the American people head on," - San Francisco mayor, Gavin Newsom, challenging the gutless Democrats on marriage equality.

All about Parker, Richard Stark's amazing non-hero. If you don't know Parker, you're missing a lot. Check out Lee Marvin in Point Blank or Mel Gibson in Payback, based on the same Parker novel.

Richard Linklater's film of Philip K. Dick's amazing paranoid novel is true to the book, the best adaptation of a Dick novel I've seen. The animation is brilliant, and really captures the feel of Dick's world. It includes stellar performances from Robert Downey Jr., Keanu Reeves, and Rory Cochrane, and Woody Harrelson and Winona Ryder, though they don't stretch as much, are also terrific. Highly recommended, one of the best movies I've seen this year.
