I thought I should publicize Rob Lancaster’s new
site, Stop Sylvia Browne. You may remember Rob is the driving force
behind Stop
Kaz, and now Kaz has apparently if not “stopped”, at least slowed
down, Rob has turned his attentions to Sylvia.
Of course, actually stopping the juggernaut that is
the Sylvia Browne Corporation might not be possible, but the site is
nevertheless a great first stop for all skeptical information on Sylvia. The links alone are worth checking out, but
he also has multiple articles and links to videos of Sylvia’s numerous
blunders. If you have any information
yourself, or want to write an article, I’m sure Rob would be pleased to hear
from you.

From the Department of the Painfully Obvious, the Religion News Service reports that Christian advocacy groups are using the fake "war on Christmas" to make big money from donors:
The Mississippi-based American Family Association says it has sold more than 500,000 buttons and 125,000 bumper stickers bearing the slogan "Merry Christmas: It's Worth Saying."
The Alliance Defense Fund, a Christian legal aid group that boasts a network of some 900 lawyers standing ready to "defend Christmas," says it has moved about 20,000 "Christmas packs." The packs, available for a suggested $29 donation, include a three-page legal memo and two lapel pins.
And Liberty Counsel, a conservative law firm affiliated with the Rev. Jerry Falwell, says it has sold 12,500 legal memos on celebrating Christmas and 8,000 of its own buttons and bumper stickers.
What a shock. Scare people with a trumped up and mythical threat and get them to buy stuff from you. Welcome to the world of demagoguery. Read the comments on this post...

I think I'm going to move this thing off Radio, and on to a WordPress platform, at http://bucketsofrain.com/blog. I need to figure out how & whether to move all the content -- several years now! I'll probably move slowly, figuring out one thing at a time. No reason to check that site yet, at least for a few days. And I'll leave a permanent note here. Or at least semi-permanent!

Rick LePage writes a very nice memorial for Bruce Fraser, who passed away recently in San Francisco. In the late 1980s and early 90s, like Bruce, I wrote a lot of stuff for MacWEEK, and our paths crossed often at the magazine's offices, at parties, at Expos, and online. Bruce was always lots of fun to talk to, widely read in some of the same areas I read, and was smart as can be. I haven't seen Bruce in ages (nor Rick, for that matter), but have lots of fond memories of him.
