AZ: House eases penalty for carrying concealed gun without permit. The Arizona House narrowly voted yesterday to reduce the penalty for carrying a concealed weapon without a permit.
The bill (HB2321) was sent to the Senate on a vote of 32-27 - one more than the minimum 31 needed for House passage.
Under the bill, violations would be a petty offense punishable by a fine of $50 or less. They now are misdemeanors punishable by up to six months in jail.
Supporters said the change would help responsible citizens who carry guns and inadvertently break Arizona's concealed weapons law. [FirearmNews.com]
Good news, but the article doesn't say anything about the bill's prospects in the Arizona Senate.

It won't end with Iraq [Samizdata.net]
At least some of the Crusaders are being honest. In this article and the rather lengthy discussion that follows several of them come right out and admit that they want the US to go on and conquer most of the Middle East plus North Korea after Iraq, and suggest that doing so is the US government's strategy.
Reason Express has some comments on that strategy.

"I Didn't Realize What All Was in It". The New York Times has a hilarious story describing how members of Congress are only now discovering, to their dismay,... [Hit & Run]
McCain-Feingold may be an unconstitutional monstrosity, but maybe it will lead members of Congress to reconsider their habit of voting for legislation they haven't read. In any case, it's richly satisfying to see legislators worry that they might be tossed in jail for a seemingly trivial mistake such as speaking at the wrong event or letting your name appear on an invitation. This is the kind of fear and uncertainty their convoluted laws routinely impose on ordinary Americans.
No doubt they'll just pass a new law exempting themselves.

As I expected, the Segway it turning out to be all hype. Few people actually want to buy a $5000 scooter that ways 80 pounds and doesn't go very far or very fast.
