Citizen Clark? Or, Why Electing a Mass Murderer Is a Really Bad Idea. By now it is obvious that a vote for Bush/Cheney will be a vote for Empire. It should be equally obvious that a vote for Clark would have the same effect. The very fact that Clark walks free, that he is proud of what he has done, that he is running for President, is proof of the ethical abyss which seems to have engulfed the world.

Clark's methods of "waging war" -- approved by his superiors at the time, be it noted -- hardly differ from those espoused by Osama Bin Laden: cowardly attack civilians with missiles and bombs, hoping their spirit breaks and they capitulate to your demands. Yet this man would be President. [Antiwar.com]

Guerrillas Ambush U.S. Convoy in Iraq [AP World News]

Also mentioned in the article is this incident:

About 20 miles to the east, a nervous American patrol shot at a wedding party in Fallujah late Wednesday, killing a 14-year-old boy and wounding six other people after mistaking celebratory gunfire for an attack, witnesses said.

Wahabbi Bomb?.

In case you were in a good mood today, The Guardian is reporting that the despicable House of Saud is actively considering acquiring a nuclear arsenal. (Link via Kevin Drum.)

[Hit & Run]

Another bit of fallout (so to speak) from the conquest of Iraq. I doubt they'd really be able to get a nuclear bomb--they haven't got the means to build one, and it's unlikely anyone would want to sell them one. More likely they'd go with another option listed in the article, forming an alliance with an existing nuclear power.

Support the Troops. Its not enough that US solders are being used for target practice in countries the average government school senior couldn't find on a map (and that had never posed a threat to the US), they may also get sick or... [LewRockwell.com Blog]

A possible explanation for the surprisingly large number of troops being evacuated from Iraq for "medical reasons" without being wounded.

Mark Baard at Wired - Radio Tag Debut Set for This Week - RFID is here. Pretty soon, everything you buy will have a unique serial number with which it can be tracked. Almost time to accustom yourself to zapping your clothing in the microwave when you bring it home from the store. On the plus side, it makes the supply chain much easier to manage. All that's really necessary is a policy of disabling the RFID chips as soon as the product is sold. [smith2004] [End the War on Freedom]

I would never trust a store to disable the Big Brother chip. They'd just turn it off, but leave it functional--and then it could be re-activated at any time.

Right Cause, Wrong Reason.

At The Dissdent, Will Wilkinson writes (say that three times fast) about the real reason to oppose the World Bank and the International Monetary Fund:

The next time you get the chance, please protest against the IMF and the World Bank. But do it for the right reason. Do it not because they promote globalization and capitalism, but because they impede it.

Wilkinson notes:

The increases in prosperity in the Third World are largely due to the remarkable growth in the economies of Asia, where markets and global trade have been embraced with varying degrees of enthusiasm. However, in Africa, where markets and global trade have generally been repudiated, the people remain, by and large, in the throes of the most desperate poverty. The Bank and the Fund are trying to impose economic globalization through political globalization, and they are failing -- indeed, making things worse.
