Cryptome: TSA plans to conduct a pilot technology program in 2004, in a limited number of airports, to test and evaluate the merits of the Registered Traveler (RT) concept. This pilot program (RT Pilot) is designed to positively identify qualified, known travelers via advanced identification technologies for the purposes of expediting those passengers' travel experience at the airport security checkpoints and thereby enabling TSA to improve the allocation of its limited security resources. [John Robb's Weblog]
I predict that the next terrorist attack involving transporation in the US will be carried out by "registered travelers." The Feds will then respond by banning travel for anyone who is not registered.

Nation-Building Update. Albanians attack Serbs across Kosovo, unleashing "the worst bloodletting in the province since the 1999 war." [Hit & Run]
The only surprise here is that it took so long. Note that Al Qaeda is involved with the Albanians in Kosovo, but the US government doesn't care because in that case they're on the same side.
