Today's big news is the announcement that Apple will be moving to Intel CPUs (coverage on MacInTouch). It's not really a surprise, as this is something that Apple has been at least toying with since Star Trek in 1992. The real question is how well will it work in practice? Apple is bound to tell developers that they will have to make trivial changes at most, but that's what they said about OS X. And what about speed? Intel CPUs are slower than the PowerPCs, but OS X is so slow that PCs running Windows XP are in practical terms much faster. Now it seems the speed gap may get even wider.
