New Attrezzo per Xindice Release
Joel Rosi-Schwartz has announced a new release of Attrezzo per Xindice the Eclipse plugin for browsing and administering Xindice.
The major change in this release is the inclusion of import and export facilities for data in the database. It also includes a few minor enhancements and bug fixes.
This looks to be a really useful tool. I haven't used it yet since Eclipse doesn't run on Mac OS X, but I'm waiting anxiously for the OS X port to materialize just so I can check this tool out.

Xperanto
IBM has released a white paper on Xperanto. This is their XQuery based system for querying existing relational data as XML.
What I'm curious about is if this is the new XML support for DB2 that has been reported to be coming. If it is, I'm very disappointed. While this is a mildly interesting approach, it definitely isn't revolutionary. It also has one massive flaw, it's query only. This means any real application still has to drop back to relational techniques for inserting and updating data. That presents a nasty proposition to developers as it means learning two completely different data models and two completely different query languages. I was expecting something a little more seamless that allowed you to stay in the XML domain when building an application.
