Another day...
I got up today after a sleepless night. Around noon I decided to take a nap. As I laid down my whole apartment started shaking and rattling. Needless to say sleep was not in the cards. They decided to do construction on a Saturday. The apartment below me is being remodeled. Gotta love the new property management company, NOT!
It looks like Bush (the younger) is getting to settle the score his dad had with Saddam. People remember Gulf War 1, but not how we got into it. The origin of the war lies in the 8 year Iran-Iraq War. Iraq had picked up a lot of debt and was struggling to pay it. The reason was a depressed price of oil, and Kuwaits refusal to forgive Iraq's debt. Saddam decided to blame Kuwait for all his ills, and figured it would give him enough oil to pay down the debt.
He began rattling sabers, and we ignored it. Bush was asked what our policy was regarding a potential conflict between Iraq, and Kuwait. The White House response was that it was an internal Arab issue. Our Ambassador even told Saddam we had no interest in his matters with Kuwait. Our intelligence people, and the military didn't think he would actually invade Kuwait. Then he did invade Kuwait. At first Bush (Senior) was even going to ignore it, until Margaret Thatcher convinced him that this aggression simply could not stand.
The irony of this is that we supported, and armed both Saddam Hussein and Ossama Bin Laden. The rest as they say is history...mj
