Audiocasting - open, no lockin audio file aggregation

I think I'm starting to understand all the confussion surrounding the Podcast name and technology.  It seems that the techie/analytical weblog folks are starting to do their thing which is questioning and back checking what is really going on here.

IMHO, what we really need here is a higher level name, one that describes an audioblogging XML aggregation feature that clearly speaks "any audio file type aggregation via any type of XML feed to any developer's/manufacture's media player".

This name needs to describe generically a class of audioblogging features without binding or locking the audioblogging feature to a specific xml feed format, specific manufacture's MP3 player or even an audio file format.  Again, IMHO naming the feature something generic like "audiocasting" gives audioblogging a feature with choices (Podcast would be one type of Audiocast).  Maybe I'll buy the domain audiocasting.org to explain and promote the feature/meme.  I already own audcasting.com.

audiocasting -  the creation and aggregation of discrete, downloadable audio files usng a XML feed.  Audio files are created and uploaded to a Web server on the Internet. A XML feed file in a format such as RSS 2.0, ATOM, etc.  is used as sorta of a playlist and amended with the audio file's meta data that includes it's URL.

Client software is then used to aggregate the xml feeds, automatically downloading the audio files to a PC, audio player, PDA, cell phone, etc.

The main point here is like audio post style and production (ie.  phone weblogs are only one type of audioblog post production), there can and will be many different ways and types of audioblog audio file aggregation - audiocasting.

IMHO, the branding of specific audioblogging features such as specific types of audiocasts with names like PODcasting and AUDcasting, will be a way to educate, kick start, promote, market and hype specific features of audioblogging to end users.

Confussing maybe, but in the end all of this started and was rooted around and still is technically what we been calling  "AUDIOBLOGGING" for the last 2 years.

Some PODcasters have remained loyal to the prior art.  Check out Dave Slusher audioblog, Evilgenius Genious Chronicles.  Dave is a pioneer in PODCasting that roots and defines all his PODcasts daily as "audioblogs.

My audiocasting definition thoughts and observations are a work in progress.  Comment below!!
