How many small or medium sized organizations are going to waste money on oversized and over hyped knowledge management systems eat up the budget with excessive fees and support costs above the price of the software. The Chicago Public Schools learning technology department ( the name changes every couple of years) is looking for a knowledge management package as of three weeks ago. It will be interesting to know what they eventually bought. Folks, bigger is not necessarily better when it comes to knowledge management solutions! I would like to know what is the criteria for selecting a knowledge management package. Brent Ashley, the developer of Blogchat, sells a knowledge managment package for about $5000. I will use that as a baseline measure and compare that to what CPS buys. This should be interesting.
