From the Sode-Straw Dept:

26400 bps is for suckers.

Thanksfindering. A follow-up to "That Finder Thing". [Daring Fireball]

Both this article and That Finder Thing provide excellent analysis on the State of the Finder.

Here's what I really want from OS X:

  • An ability to turn off (some) application's insistence about popping a window into my face when I switch to it. Why? Because it's never where I want to be. Give me an option to turn it off!
  • Less insistence on trying to find a volume that isn't there. Like an AFP volume you forgot to unmount before you walked away, or a firewire volume you forgot to unmount. It seems to take the finder forever to give up -- and you can't do anything with the Finder in the meantime
  • Better Error Messages
  • Ability to turn off the stupid window zooming in the Finder through the GUI. Yes, you can do it through the command-line... but, gosh darn it...

Yes, I think Jaguar is an improvement over X.1 in areas of speed, handicap accessibility, and use in Lab environments. I think Apple should focus on the Finder for Mac OS X.25. Fix bugs reported by engineers, fix usability issues in the Finder and Cocoa, and keep on writing that documentation.

That should keep everybody busy for long enough to put together a release. Maybe.
