Massive Motor Fun So this weekend I'm in Rochester, city of the alma mater. The original goal was to go see a friends senior art exhibit and hang out with some college friends. Well, things changed a bit. One of my former roommates was working this evening, so I went to see him (and bought a new card game at the store he works at), pulled out of the parking lot, and within a quarter mile my car dies (on the road). I realized that I didn't have any forward power anymore, and had just enough momentum to get off the road and into a parking lot. My Grandfather is one of the better mechanics back home, so I called him to see if he had any ideas. He couldn't think of anything (besides the belt, which was on), so he recommended calling AAA (to which I have a membership - thank you Grandmother!) I called - 45 minute wait for the tow truck. Sure, I'll wait. Truck gets there, they try to jumpstart my car, and when that didn't work, we loaded it onto the towtruck. Get to Pepboys down the street, they are half an hour from closing and won't do anything tonight (fair enough) but would take a look at it Saturday and give me a call on my cell.... and, oh yeah, it'll be $77 to hook it up to a computer to figure out what's wrong with it (ok, fair, whatever). So now how do I get from Pepboys to my destination (on the other side of the city?). I called my friend's house - no answer. Called some other friends who I'm hanging out with on Saturday - no answer there either. Ended up calling the fiance of one of my friends from class. Luckily she was in Rochester and was able to give me a ride to my destination. So it's been a far more exciting trip than I had anticipated... and I left my new game in the car. Of course. |
