Two unsettling developments.
The first is a craving for sleep the likes of which I haven't experienced since adolescence many decades ago -- if then. It gives new meaning to the term "narcotic," this drugged sleep that overcomes me. I've started sleeping right through my radio alarm clock (something which would have been unthinkable a year ago), which is set to a peppy and unsoothing morning drive-time program featuring pop music and hilarity. When I do wake up, it feels like a tremendous struggle. I'm fighting against a seductive undertow that wants to pull me back under into sleep.
