WE-ness & Synergic Trust

Timothy Wilken, MD writes: If we are to move beyond adversity and conflict — if we are to move beyond neutrality and anonymity, then we must get to know each other. The secret of creating synergic relationship is WE-ness. Synergic relationship is close and personal. It requires trust, caring and committment. It requires honesty and openness. Trust is not a new word for humanity. It was coined long ago when the world was first dominated by the adversary way. Trust meant that I could rely on you not to hurt me. It was safe to assume that you were not my enemy. Trust meant the ability to rely on the absence of a negative. Synergic Trust is more than simple Trust. Synergic Trust means that while I can rely on you not to hurt me, I can further rely on you to help me. And, while it is safe to assume that you are not my enemy, it is further safe to assume that you are my friend. Synergic trust is much more than simply the ability to rely on the absence of a negative. It is that plus the ability to rely on the presence of a positive. Synergic trust means that I can rely on you, not only to not hurt me, but also to help me. (01/24/03)

America's Plan to Secure Iraq's Oilfields

The US military has drawn up detailed plans to secure and protect Iraq's oilfields to prevent a repeat of 1991 when President Saddam set Kuwait's wells ablaze. The US state department and Pentagon disclosed the preparations during a meeting in Washington before Christmas with members of the Iraqi opposition parties. Iraq has the second biggest known oil reserves in the world producing, in their current run-down state, about 1.5m barrels a day. But experts contacted by the Guardian predict this could rise to 6m barrels a day within five years with the right investment and control. (01/24/03)

Colin Powell says Allies will come Around

New York Times --  ``I don't think we will have to worry about going it alone,'' Powell said as France and Germany stiffened their resistance to using force to disarm Iraq. ``I am sure it will be a strong coalition.'' ... On Thursday, Powell seemed anxious to cool down the rhetoric, although he acknowledged ``there are different ideas right now about how to proceed.'' He said the administration anxiously awaited the report of inspectors to the council and but again indicated the United States might not wait for council approval to attack Iraq. ``Each member of the Security Council, including the United States, reserves the right to act in a way that's consistent with its international obligations as well as its own national interests,'' Powell said. ``To say never mind now, or walk away from this problem or allow it to be strung out, I think, would be a defeat for the international community and a serious defeat for the United Nations,'' he said. ``I enter into all of these issues with a desire to hear others and recognizing that they have principles that they believe,'' Powell said. ``We listen to others and we find a way forward. There is a way forward if we remain united, if we don't take our eye off the ball.'' (01/24/03)
