"Pat Delaney" explains what is so good about using dynamic Webpublishing:

Manila blog templates, called themes, come with some built-in functionalities, like loose leaf paper comes with pre-punched holes and horizontal lines. I've gotten so used to working within the limitations of blogs that I look at Dreamweaver and Frontpage and even Composer as a kind of paper making activity - fun to do, but who has the time? Besides, with free time, I can import all the DW and FP bells and whistles right into the blog template. In the end, it's all just html and ether, right?

>> When I discovered Manila in January 2000 it took only a short while before I put aside Golive. Sure, Golive has offered WYSIWYG... but hey, have you ever gotten into cross-plattform testing after you had designed some fancy stuff in one of these WYSIWYG-editors? And were you able to edit the code that they produced in a straight forward way? The edit and publish process in dynamic Webpusblishing is only a click or two away. You see your resulsts in an instant. What a great learning environment for html this is! This is another educational opportunity, though it seems to be generally overlooked.

I think we don't need translators as much as we need speakers, teachers who will find blogging partners in their digital hallways. This requires easy access to and from classrooms into hallways where blogging language (pick your dialect) is spoken. Access meaning hardware, connection and hosting.

>> Since Pat refers to an earlier comment that I wrote on the need for "translators" who understand enough of the technology AND Education, I think I should clarify this thought a little bit. I wasn't necessarily thinking of some expert consultant who steps in and "translates" the sometimes esoteric world of blogware. Of course teachers could and probably should play this role for each other. I just believe that we need more people who take the stuff that is available, try to apply it to some educational project, step back, reflect, and possibly try to show ohters what they have achieved... and what hasn't worked so well, too. On the other hand, what do you do if none of these teacher models is on the horizon?

Nice exchange on Weblogs in Education
"Sarah Lohnes", "Will Richardson", "Pat Delaney", "Peter Ford" and "Chris Ashley" brought up a number of interesting comments and thoughts in the last few days. I guess it is time for more reading, thinking, and some sorting... In the meantime I will try to respond to some selected bits and pieces.
