Desktop Actors is a software product that provides scriptable avatars on your desktop. You can script any number of avatars to do and say what you want, using AppleScript, VBScript, C, C++, Objective C, and Java on both Mac OS X and Windows XP. An example AppleScript includes:
tell application Desktop Actors
tell actor "deeje" to approach
set emotion of actor "deeje" to "happy"
tell actor "deeje" to animate "wave"
tell actor "deeje" to say "Hello world!"
set emotion of actor "deeje" to "giggly"
tell actor "deeje" to leave
end tell
Because Desktop Actors is fully scriptable, you can integrate avatars into your productivity tools such as email and compute-intensive applications. Have your avatar tell you of really important messages or the results of lengthy compile operations. Include Speakable Items to create fully interactive agents. Several scripts will be included to use with Entourage and Code Warrior.
