Another annual migration has come and gone, and this year, Jackson had his first visit with the beautiful land and our beautiful extended family of friends.
Most years, Yosemite is a very fun trip, but honestly, we had a difficult time of it this year. In particular, because of the amount of time devoted to taking care of our new son, I didn't get a chance to visit with anyone for any substantial amount of time. We were there, but we weren't really there, you know?
Opie & Nikkie, as always great to see you. Your positive spirits in life are truly inspirational! Julie & Steve, thanks so much for your thoughts. The noise toy giggled and barked all the way home! Tony, I hope things are going well for you. You've been suspiciously absent from my life lately, and I miss your company. Jill, your son is becoming quite a gentle man, and we have much to learn from one of our most senior parents in the group. Angie, you are such a natural around Jackson: I hope he visits with his artistic auntie angie often! Angel, hope we see you in the card games next year, and around the campfire with a song or two!
See you all in 2003...

Jackson is almost 8 weeks old now (on June 4th), where did the time go? I look forward to him walking and talking, but I also cherish every moment he's in my arms. He still isn't smiling, at least not definitely... he does sometimes squinch his face up when he sees us, and we think "Yeah, he recognizes us!", but then something usually "escapes" him soon after, and we realize it's just reflexes. :-) Doesn't matter, we've fallen in love with our son nonetheless!

In this day and age, when does "strange" become "alarming"?
For example, we're walking down the street today (heading to the Canvas Cafe at 9th & Lincoln) when we pass by some packages on the sidewalk. They were flat packages wrapped in brown paper, looked ready for mailing, just propped up against a wall... just sitting there and no one around who could claim ownershi. In Israel, this kind of thing would bring out the bomb squad!
Because of the encroaching terrorism in our country, it is time to train ourselves in ways to deter terrorism in our daily lives: this involves learning to be much more conscious of our surroundings, and being cordial but firm in identifying random packages/bags/purses/backpacks that don't have obvious owners. 99.9999% of the time, the actual owner is just a few steps away, and a friendly "cool, thx" will be all that's needed to make it all good... hey, we're all on the same side. But that same vigiliance will also make it much more difficult for people with bad intentions to find a "blind" opportunity to harm us.
Be careful out there...
