Old Haunts
I was visited by an old lover last night. She was "pudgy", not nearly as cute as I remember her, and had a baby with her. Poor thing, the child was pretty ugly as well. Last time she visited me in a dream, I got an email from her literally just a few days later. She sounded very depressed, if not a touch psychotic, and I felt bad for her. I tried to write back, but she had cancelled her AOL account (or used a free one, I'm not quite sure). Strange. Wherever you are, V, I hope life is treating you well. If not, I don't want to know.

Jackson takes a stand!
Every day brings a new "first"!

This morning, as Paulette got ready for work, I spent time with Jackson on our bed. I was holding out my fingers for him to grab and sit up. Whenever I reach for him these days, he instinctively tries to raise his head... he so wants to be UP to look about!

Anyway, we're sitting on the bed, and he's sitting with his toes touching each other, and holding himself up by my fingers, when he suddenly lurches forward and pushes down with his legs! Just like that, he stood himself up!!! He just flashed an "ah shucks" grin before quickly being distracted by the room around him.

Also, later in the morning, when I dropped him off at daycare, he cried when he say Michelle (our daycare provider). This is the first time I noticed he cried in direct response to seeing an unfamiliar face... it looks as though he's beginning to recognize! The other day, as he was crying and I was trying to sooth him, I began singing "itsy-bitsy spider" and he whipped his head dowards me and smiled.

We've started him on "solids", although it doesn't look that solid to me. Rice mush to begin with, and I think we're gonna try bananas this weekend. I think it's time to go high-chair shopping.

Paulette and I are going to learn sign language, and teach Jackson as well. Some of the basics are "hungry", "hurt", and "tired", but I'm also eager to teach him positive signs like "yummy", "fun", and "love".
