Get Yer Groove On

I threw together a little dance tune and decided to put a link to it...enjoy. Oh an for those who are wondering, all of this was done on my laptop using Reason. [All Things Java]
Geez, I wish I had free time to get back into Reason! But more importantly, I want to find an easy multi-track app that does both audio and Reason-like digital instruments... Reason 3.0 perhaps? Pretty-pulleeeze?

EMOnline: Placing value on placement (12/02/2002)

iTVX is developing a quantitative approach to valuing product placement, depending on time on screen, zoom on product, interaction with characters, or integration into story line.

To do this, iTVX has developed a scale of product exposure levels. The lowest level, for example, is simply a clear product logo in the background of a shot or a scene. Level 3 is ``background plus a close-up'' that includes the product. Level 6 includes not only a product close-up but also a ``hands-on'' interaction by one of the actors. Level 9 adds a verbal mention to the hands-on interaction. And at Level 10, the ultimate in product placement, a show's entire episode is written around a product; for example, the Junior Mints episode of ``Seinfeld,'' in which Jerry and Kramer munch the candies while blithely watching a surgical procedure. The value of that exposure is ``off the charts,'' Mr. Zazza said. [LOUIS CHUNOVIC]
I'd like to meet Frank Zazza sometime!

PB is back in my hands

I doubt that they fixed the problem, but I couldn't wait any longer to get ti back and get on with my life. I had several hundred photos to download, a personal website to work on, and a client that wants me to start cranking on code!

Java is Blosxoming

Erik Hatcher is not the only one with a Java port of the minimalist Perl-based Blosxom blogger software; Robert Rasmussen has one too. He says he will be moving over to it, and posting the code, soon. [java.blogs Day's Entries]
When when when? I'd really like to try these out, but I can't find a download link...

Universal Health Insurance -...

This one is for dad

Universal Health Insurance - Scott Rosenberg points to a WSJ op-ed that argues for universal health insurance. He's surprised that the WSJ would argue for that, but then notes that "the president of Johns Hopkins pointed out that the advent of genetic screening will make the old model of health insurance untenable, as insurance companies' business imperative to refuse service to people who test positive for major disorders clashes with society's moral imperative to provide health care for as broad a population as possible. 'Genetic testing is health insurance's iceberg.' The piece is online here."

I agree that we need to seriously consider moving to UHI. The role of government is changing in the modern world. The government is too bureaucratic and foot-stumbling to deal with certain things (i.e. FCC and spectrum regulation) that would evolve better with less government intervention. But health coverage is one of those areas where it is increasingly important for government to step in. Genetic testing is going to continue to improve at astonishing rates, and if there is one thing that insurance companies know how to do well it's data-mine their pool of information and build exclusions to maximize their profit. It may be a task of choosing between two evils, but in this case I would seriously consider choosing the government over private insurance.
