Titmice in the yard
A few weeks ago, I noticed a little gray bird in our
back yard, collected nesting material and flying in and
out of the birdhouse in the middle of the yard.
Then he would fly over to one of the trees and call
out with a nice-sounding tune. Deb said it sounded
like "hey, ladies, check out my pad!" and said that
she hoped he got lucky. I looked it up, and its small,
all-gray coloring and crest make me think it's a titmouse.
Well, a few days ago I was out in the yard and
heard a faint chirpy cheeping. Turns out that
there are four or five baby titmice in there, now.
This morning, there were a pair of larger, black birds
(starlings, I think) on and around the bird house,
apparently just trying to find a way to get at the
baby
titmice.
