2003 Denver Mayoral Election

The Denver Post is running an in-depth look at Don Mares candidate for mayor. Mares is the current Denver Auditor. His support is coming from labor and some democratic party regulars. He's walking all the neighborhoods in an attempt to galvanize voters on a grass roots basis.

The Denver Post is also running an in-depth look at John Hickenlooper, candidate for mayor. Hickenlooper is an outsider in the election and aspires to one of the most powerful political positions in the state without having any experience. It remains to be seen whether he can appeal to the traditional party supporters in the city.

2003 Denver Municipal Election

Well it seems that it doesn't matter what rules the Election Commission apply to the collecting of signatures to get on the ballot. Of the several candidates that were disqualified on Monday two appealed and got back on. The Rocky Mountain News is reporting that the Election Commision has voted to allow Carol Boigon and John Cimino back on the ballot. Predictably other candidates in the City Council At-Large are upset that Boigon will be allowed on the ballot. They accused her of using her connections to the Webb administration to garner special treatment. Webb denied any involvement. It remains to be seen if Jeremy Stefanek, who is running for mayor, will get on the ballot. It was reported last week that he thought he screwed up the second round of signature collections.

The Denver Post is running a column about several campaign issues, including Boigon coming up short. They list some of the supporters for a few of the candidates.

Here's the link to the Stump from the Rocky Mountain News.
