Stygius: "Looks like Bill Frist's maneuver yesterday to pressure the Democrats before another cloture vote has failed badly, despite having an amiable John McCain at his side. McCain was there to provide photogenic cover for Frist's sophistries, 'moving goals posts' and the like, which were so clearly idiotic that McCain wouldn't even support them after the press conference -- merely calling for an up-or-down vote. Steve Clemons says the maneuver may have actually backfired, solidifying the Democrats' position and pushing Senator Pryor towards supporting a No-cloture vote."
Blogs for Bush: "Those who read this blog on a regular basis know that I take a rather dim view of the United Nations. My main gripe about the organization is that it tends to put freedom on par with tyranny - in the General Assembly, unfree States like China get to vote right alongside free States like the United States...Given that, what we need at the UN is a strong voice who will not mince words and will demand deep reforms of that corrupt and moribund organization. In yet another irony of world history, it is John Bolton, a man selected by President Bush who is reviled in the UN on a regular basis, who is most likely to save that organization and breath new life into it."
